Villa Della Porta–Giulini–Crivelli — Baroque Estate, Lombardy
Three noble families called this estate home across three centuries. The fourth chapter is being written now.
ABOUT THIS PROPERTY
Villa Della Porta–Giulini–Crivelli is among the most significant Italian palazzo for sale in Lombardy today — a 17th-century Baroque estate that has passed through three noble families across three centuries without losing the coherence of its original vision. Set in Rovellasca, equidistant between Milan and Como at thirty minutes from each, it occupies the centre of a Lombard landscape that has defined the region's cultural identity since the early 1600s.
The estate's origins trace to the 17th century, with expansions through the Baroque and Rococo periods that established the scale and character the property carries today. The main villa presents a monumental facade, its grandeur confirmed upon entry by a ceremonial staircase of considerable architectural importance. Throughout the building, 60 rooms carry the accumulated work of generations of craftsmen: Rococo and Baroque frescoes, elaborate stuccoes and integrated artworks that document the tastes and resources of three of Lombardy's most distinguished noble families — the Della Porta, the Giulini and the Crivelli.
Across 30 bedrooms and a footprint exceeding 10,000 square metres, the principal villa operates at a scale that few private properties in Italy can match. The "Putti Room" — named for its figurative fresco programme — represents the estate's most celebrated interior. A private chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception is integrated into the building's fabric. Every significant room carries original decorative work that would, in isolation, constitute a collection of considerable art historical value.
The formal gardens extend to four acres, laid out in the Italian geometric tradition with symmetrical avenues, clipped hedgerows and sandstone pergolas that structure the landscape as an architectural extension of the villa. The "Limonera" — a historic citrus greenhouse in the Lombard tradition — anchors the garden's service quarter. On the estate's northwest flank, original stables and farm buildings complete a self-contained complex of considerable scale.
A secondary building of over 1,300 square metres, currently configured as ten independent apartments, offers a parallel dimension to the estate: an income-producing component or the basis for a hospitality, cultural or foundation use, depending on the acquiring party's intentions. Rovellasca sits within the province of Como, thirty minutes from Milan's northern periphery and thirty minutes from Como city. Malpensa International Airport is reachable in forty minutes; Lugano in Switzerland in thirty-five. The A9 motorway provides direct connections throughout the region.
